Founder, Live Tinted

The Multicultural Beauty Pioneer

Deepica Mutyala is the founder of Live Tinted and one of the entrepreneurs who helped force the beauty industry to rethink who it was building for.

Her journey began with a 2015 YouTube video demonstrating an unexpected solution for dark under-eye circles. More than 10 million views later, that viral moment became something much bigger: first a community centered on beauty, culture and representation, and ultimately Live Tinted, an inclusive beauty company built around solving the product problems consumers with diverse skin tones had been navigating for years.

Under Deepica’s leadership, Live Tinted became the first South Asian-owned makeup brand at Ulta Beauty, raised $15 million and expanded from its original HUESTICK into complexion, skincare and sun protection. Along the way, Deepica became a prominent voice on representation in business and beauty, earning recognition as a TIME Next Generation Leader and inspiring Mattel’s first South Asian CEO Barbie.

Her perspective goes beyond inclusive marketing. Deepica speaks to what happens when lived experience becomes market insight—and how founders can turn an overlooked consumer, an authentic community and a cultural conversation into an enduring business.

What Deepica brings to the stage.

i.

From Creator to Ulta Shelves

Going viral can create attention. It cannot, by itself, create a company. Deepica shares how one beauty video became a community, how the community revealed unmet consumer needs and how those insights became a scalable product business.

ii.

Building for the Consumer the Industry Missed

Some of the best market opportunities are hiding inside problems incumbents have normalized. Deepica explores how lived experience, cultural fluency and obsessive listening can reveal customers—and categories—legacy companies overlook.

iii.

Representation as Product Strategy

Representation is not simply who appears in a campaign. For Live Tinted, it influences product formulation, shade development, hiring, storytelling and distribution. Deepica shows how inclusion becomes a competitive advantage when it is built into the operating model. Her community directly informed products addressing concerns like hyperpigmentation and white cast.

iv.

Community Before Commerce

Live Tinted began as a place for conversation before it became a product company. Deepica shares why building trust first changed everything that came after—and how founders can use community as insight rather than merely an acquisition channel.

v.

The Creator-to-CEO Transition

The skills that build an audience are not identical to the skills that build an organization. Deepica speaks candidly about moving from creator and personality to founder and operator—while deciding which parts of the personal brand should scale with the company and which should not.

“I wanted to build something bigger—not just a product, but a platform that would make everyone feel seen.”
